Is Hoboken a good base for NYC?

by J Walsh »

I've found a reasonable hotel there, but really am not going to see New Jersey. The point of the visit is to experience New York City for the first time, but I've been shocked by the hotel prices. Apparently the hotel is within walking distance of the "PATH train". Will that get me into the city quickly, or will that be a long commute?

How much are you paying in Hoboken?  We stayed at the La Quinta in Queens (Long Island City) for 97.60 plus tax--about $116 with tax. Big room. Breakfast included. 15 minute subway ride to Manhattan. Lots of nice ethnic restaurants and diners in easy walking distance. Limited parking available.

Wow! That's great to hear. We were looking at a place for $149. I'll take a look at this one. Many thanks!
