About a dozen years ago, a tour operator called China Spree, headed by a Chinese-American expert, astonished the travel world by charging only $999 for a one-week stay in Beijing including air fare from America (or $100 more for one week in Beijing and Shanghai) and quality accommodations.

Then, the founder of China Spree was able to accomplish those travel wonders by negotiating rock-bottom prices with Chinese companies for airfare and lodgings. Today, rising Chinese prices have somewhat reduced (but not totally eliminated) availability of those tours at those prices, causing Wilson Wu, China Spree’s president, to look elsewhere for tour sensations.

And he has chosen low-cost Vietnam for disruptive tour offerings.

For departures this year in September, he will charge only $1,799 (and a lower $1,599 for departures in September of 2019) for two weeks in Vietnam (Hanoi and Saigon), including round-trip airfare from the U.S. West Coast, air between Hanoi and Saigon, 13 nights of five-star accommodations, full American breakfast daily, four lunches, an overnight cruise of Halong Bay (pictured), and numerous other features.

This is surely the travel opportunity of 2018–19.

As someone who hasn’t the slightest financial interest in China Spree (now called World Spree), I haven’t any reluctance at all to recommend it to readers of this blog. When someone creates a travel sensation, it should be made more available to American adventurers.
